A History of Redefining PossibleColonial Systems' founder and CEO, Gene Kosman, has applied his years of field experience and his passion to exceed customer expectations to develop a comprehensive services resource for the furnishing of commercial and institutional interiors. By effectively integrating expertise, manpower, logistics and technology, Colonial Systems is redefining the industry’s perception of what a professional services organization can do to build successful corporate interiors within unprecedented time frames, challenging physical environments, and realistic project budgets.
Now in our 25th year of operation, we are proud of the expertise and high-quality customer service we offer through Colonial's field staff and management team. The “can do” spirit that drives our team forward has earned Colonial Systems widespread recognition as New England’s leading interior specialties contractor.
We support the major furniture dealerships in greater Boston, including those with a regional business model. We also support manufacturers, out-of-market dealerships, move management firms, project management firms, property management companies and end-user organizations. We look forward to working with these kinds of organizations to address the challenges we know they face every day.
HighlightsColonial Systems, Inc. is widely recognized as one of the best union furniture installation service providers in the greater Boston area. Since our founding in 1992, we have completed thousands of moves, reconfigurations and new installations for many of the region’s prominent companies.
Colonial runs an average daily field staff of 95 installers and foremen who are experienced in installation and reconfiguration for virtually all major brands of systems furniture, including Allsteel, Haworth, Herman Miller, Steelcase and Teknion. Many members of our field staff also have specialized training and experience in demountable wall installation and reconfiguration. Maintaining a deep “bench” is vital to Colonial’s ability to meet simultaneous large-scale commitments and maintain an on-time completion record that gives our customers and their project teams peace of mind.
We address a wide range of specialty installation requirements in addition to traditional office systems furniture. These include floor-to-ceiling wall systems, trading floors, millwork, hospitality and retail FF&E, fixed seating, high-density filing systems, library shelving, laboratory furniture, artwork and signage.
Colonial’s progress in “redefining possible” benefits greatly from our ongoing investments in information and communication technology, including hardware, software and training. Our primary business applications include IQ Coordinator for quote, work order, receiving and project management; SnapTracker for the management of customers’ FF&E assets; and Microsoft Project for development and distribution of detailed, complex and readily updatable scheduling documents. Every Colonial foreman is equipped with an iPhone, an iPad and a laptop computer.
Since our modest beginnings in 1992, we have outgrown five facilities on the way to our current 150,000 square foot headquarters in the Boston suburb of Littleton, Massachusetts. Colonial’s warehouse is the logistical hub for our projects and accounts. Under one roof, we provide short-term storage for new and used product, long-term storage of off-duty FF&E inventories, and data that supports cost-conscious decisions about storage, deployment, product renewal and disposal. Together, these capabilities represent a one-stop solution for assuring efficiency, short reaction time and schedule confidence whenever FF&E items need to be installed, replaced, repurposed or redeployed.
With 32 service vans and medium and large box trucks, Colonial operates the largest fleet of installation vehicles in New England. To assure our ability to meet project requirements that exceed the capabilities of the Colonial fleet, we maintain a local rental relationship which enables us to bring as many additional vehicles as may be needed on line on a same-day basis.
